#language_advice In this piece I will tell you a simple rule for the spelling of monosyllabic (односложных) words.

Teach — stitch — bleach — twitch

Look — lock — geek — lick

If a monosyllabic word ends in /tʃ/, it can be -tch or -ch, or -rch. In this case, there should be 4 letters at the end of the word: the consonants plus the vowel(-s) attached to them. In case there are 3 consonants there should be 1 vowel. If there are 2 consonants there should be 2 vowels.

E.g.: teach — stitch — match — fetch — march — reach

Exceptions: rich, much, such, which

If a monosyllabic word ends in /k/, it is normally -ck or -k, or -rk (very rarely -c as in bloc and -ch as in tech). If there are 2 consonants there should be 1 vowel, if there is 1 consonant there should be 2 vowels.

E.g.: look — sneak — dock — rock — fork — dark — meek
